BOTOX Q & A

The Aesthetics Studio

What are BOTOX®, DYSPORT® AND XEOMIN®?

BOTOX® is an FDA cleared product, made from a purified substance derived from the bacteria clostridium botulinum. Botox can be injected into the face to paralyze muscles in specific areas and eliminate lines around the eyes, on the forehead, and those between the eyebrows. Botox can also be used to reduce a thick jawline by injecting into the masseter muscles. The result is a smaller proportionate jawline.

BOTOX®, DYSPORT® and XEOMIN® are all similar in mechanism and results but made and manufactured by different companies. Many clients have a personal preference and feel one product works better for them.

DYSPORT® and XEOMIN® are used less often but work in similar ways to achieve similar results.

What does a BOTOX® treatment involve?

BOTOX®  injections take only minutes to perform and patients experience no downtime. The needles used to inject the BOTOX®  are quite thin, which means most patients do not have a problem with pain. Some patients experience minor bruising or swelling after the procedure.

What is the difference between a “Filler,” and BOTOX®?

BOTOX®  does not plump up facial lines or creases like a filler.  Fillers help to fill in the valleys that cause larger lines or creases.  Instead, BOTOX® temporarily paralyzes muscle movement to soften or freeze the action of muscles that create these unwanted creases and wrinkles.

How should I prepare for BOTOX® treatment?

Avoid taking Aspirin, Advil, fish oil, and Vitamin E for a couple of days prior to treatment. These can increase bleeding and bruising.

Will my BOTOX® look natural?

When BOTOX® is administered by a licensed professional the results will be natural. Always discuss your expectations and preference with your treatment provider. Often people get concerned because they are under the assumption that BOTOX®  will make them look unnaturally frozen. This will not be the case if you receive professional advice and treatment and do not receive excess treatments.

BOTOX® RESULTS?

The results of BOTOX®  usually appear within 24 to 48 hours, but the full effect can take up to 2 weeks. At this point, touch ups can be done.  Benefits of BOTOX®  typically last up to four months.

When Should I get my BOTOX® Treatment?

Anytime! Since BOTOX® takes 2 weeks for full effect we recommend you do it a minimum of two weeks before you have a special event. Whether it’s for a vacation, red carpet event, wedding, high school reunion or anytime you just want to look and feel your best.
